The one Laptop per child program is a key project that aims at enhancement of education through the introduction of technology in primary schools in 2008. This is a fundamental step toward the building of a knowledge based economy. In this regards, Rwanda launched the One Laptop Per Child program (OLPC) in June 2008 and the current proposed target is to provide all students from P4 to P6 access to laptops.

The One Laptop per Child covers several NICT plan (National ICT Strategy) objectives. Current status of the OLPC Rwanda Project Since the project was officially launched in 2008, a lot has been done, in school infrastructure development, laptops deployment and laptop integration in classrooms.

The main objectives of the OLPC program are as follow: • The enhancement of education by enabling students to learn by doing through graphically rich, animated interactive digital courses and gaming • To transform the role of the teacher from the knowledge holder to felicitator who guides pupils to access the vast knowledge on the laptops, severs and on the internet. • To enable primary school students an early access to computers where can develop to computer skills through computer science courses which include programming skills. • To expend their knowledge on specific subjects like Science, Mathematics, Languages and socials sciences through online research and digital content hosted on school servers.
