Astronomy(i) has been practiced for centuries and you don't need expensive equipment to do it! This first session aims to train the whole class(i) to use a telescope and hopefully to provide an opportunity to engage in some active learning(i) by using one. The lesson includes some naked-eye observations and tells how modern technology helps scientists know where to look. You can explore the scientific method(i) and language(i) at this point, using targeted questioning(i) / differentiation(i). Students may be able to engage in an inquiry(i) project based around this work, perhaps for homework(i).
