This template is for applying categories within teaching approaches. E.g.

and places the page in [[:Category:Sample approach]], and creates a link from the "(ta)", to "teaching approaches/sample approach".
 
If you want to tag a word with a category, but cannot use the exact name of the category in the flow of the text, then you can supply a second argument:

This template is for applying categories within teaching approaches. E.g.

{{teachtag|sample approach}}

produces this

sample approach(ta)

and places the page in Category:Sample approach, and creates a link from the "(ta)", to "teaching approaches/sample approach".

If you want to tag a word with a category, but cannot use the exact name of the category in the flow of the text, then you can supply a second argument:

{{teachtag|sample approach|some other way to refer to sample approach}}

produces this

some other way to refer to sample approach(ta)
