From OER in Education

School teacher for 29 years...science department head for 20 of those. Followed by teacher training for several years at the University of Southampton and ending as deputy director at the Science Learning Centre South East. I now run Copernican Revolutions a small enterprise dedicated to revolutionising teaching and learning in the school classroom. I was elected to the National Chair of ASE in 2001 and recently spent 4 years on the Advisory Panel for Science in Society (STFC).

I began life researching into the automated analysis of rocket photography...then a completely new field, digital photography had not been heard of! But teaching eventually lured me in and I enjoyed 12 years abroad, 9 of them in Turkey...so yes, I speak Turkish and also speak French as my wife is from Normandy.

I have acted as an expert (physics exams) consultant to the Turkish courts and helped Blue Peter with their 50th anniversary celebrations, for which I received a Blue Peter badge. The Bloodhound SSC project began in 2008 and I still offer professional development to teachers. I drive a 1962 MGB and enjoy motorcycling, as well as food and French wines!
