|Learning Objectives=Students should understand that:<br />* a variety of measurements and units are used in everyday life to describe quantities and to express relationships<br />* there is almost universal acceptance of a single, linked system of standard units (the SI system) for use in science and technology,<br />* various strategies can be used to help them learn from written text and audio cassettes.<br />Students should be more able to:<br />* use a variety of approaches and tactics when dealing with study materials, including: -skimming, to obtain an overview and help them plan their study, <br />* scan, to identify important ideas, <br />* making brief notes to help them clarify their own thoughts, <br />* summarizing to help them reflect on and record what they have learnt. <br />
