Investigations engage pupils in [[Teaching Approaches/Active learning|active learning]] to explore a particular topic or problem.  Investigations may be related to [[Teaching Approaches/Inquiry|enquiry]] based learning, and sometimes used synonymously, but we would normally consider enquiry based learning more open ended, involving [[Teaching Approaches/Higher order|higher order]] [[Teaching Approaches/Reasoning|reasoning]] and perhaps high level [[Teaching Approaches/Dialogue|dialogue]] in [[Teaching Approaches/Group work|group work]] contexts, where in investigations such [[Teaching Approaches/Group talk|group talk]] might be more closely directed by the teacher.
