When we talk about discussion, we're typically considering the social activity of engaging in conversation around a particular topic, or set of topics.  In the educational context this is obviously a powerful tool with which to engage pupils in using subject-based language, in engaging ways.  Readers should refer to the pages on Dialogic Teaching, Dialogue, and Whole Class work for further detail, in addition to the resources listed below which offers some examples for example on how to start effective discussion.
